PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of preventing wrong discharge of a pixel cell to be set in an extinction state, by using a plasma display panel having a cell structure in which a selection cell and a display cell are separated, and to provide a driving method for the display panel. SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with an address means for generating address discharge within the selection cell by successively applying pixel data pulse, corresponding to pixel data to each other of column electrodes by one display line each simultaneously with a scanning pulse, while successively applying the scanning pulse to one row electrode of the row electrode pair of the display panel in an address period; a sustaining means for applying a sustain pulse of the polarity reverse from the polarity of the scanning pulse to each of the row electrodes constituting the row electrode pair in a sustain period; and an auxiliary discharge means for generating the auxiliary discharge of the reverse polarity from the polarity of the selection discharge within the selection cell by applying an auxiliary pulse between the one row electrode of the row electrode pair and the column electrode, after the end of the address period and before the start of the sustain period.
