<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent information (e.g., confidential information) from being leaked to third persons other than persons to which a process cartridge is sold. <P>SOLUTION: When the door of an image forming apparatus is opened to access to a nonvolatile memory 101 in the process cartridge 1, the CPU 201 of an image forming apparatus body 7 reads confidential information stored in the nonvolatile memory 101 in the process cartridge 1, and writes and withdraws it into a nonvolatile memory 202 in the apparatus body 7. Subsequently, the CPU 201 deletes the confidential information stored in the nonvolatile memory 101 in the process cartridge 1.
