PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase mountability and suppress vibration in an OHV type reciprocating internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder block 13 having a cylinder part 35 and a crankcase part 34 and a cylinder head 14 fixed to the cylinder block 13. A crankshaft 17 is rotatably supported on the crankcase part 34, a piston 20 is connected to the crankshaft 17 through a connecting rod 19, and the piston 20 is slidably inserted into a cylinder 11 in the cylinder part 35. A camshaft 27 is disposed in a cam chamber 36 in the cylinder part 25 parallel with the crank axis O, a valve 24 operated by the rotation of the camshaft 27 is disposed in the cylinder head 14, and the center axis Y3 of the cylinder 11 is offset to an anti-camshaft 27 side relative to a vertical axis Y1 passing the crank axis O and parallel with the center axis Y3 of the cylinder.
