<p>The electrode system for a glass melting furnace has an electrode holder (9) over the molten glass level (20), with a coolant channel (24) and a metal heating electrode (7). The coolant channel reaches as far at the upper end of the electrode to lower the temperature of the thread mounting (8) for the electrode at the holder. At the passage through the furnace, the electrode is shrouded by a ceramic mantle (31). The cooled end of the electrode is within a metal protective housing (32), resistant to corrosion and temperature. The ceramic mantle is bonded to the electrode by a contact mortar (33).</p> |
