The invention relates to a process for preparing an alkyl tertiary alkyl ether and hydrogenating the dienes contained in an isoalkene-containing etherification stream, characterized in that it comprises the following stages: a) feeding a first stream containing an isoalkene and a diene, a second stream containing alcohol and a third stream containing hydrogen into a feed zone of a distillation column reactor; b) contacting the streams in a distillation zone with etherification reaction containing an etherification catalyst to: i) selectively react at least a portion of the isoalkene with a portion of the alcohol to form the alkyl tertiary alkyl ether, ii) distill the alkyl tertiary alkyl ether downwards, out of the distillation zone with etherification reaction and iii) distill the unreacted isoalkene, alcohol, diene and hydrogen upwards, out of the distillation zone with etherification reaction; c) contacting the unreacted isoalkene, alcohol, diene and hydrogen in a distillation zone with hydrogenation reaction containing a hydrogenation catalyst to selectively hydrogenate a part of the dienes to alkenes; d) withdrawing the ether product from the distillation column reactor as bottoms and e) withdrawing from the distillation collumn reactor an overheads stream having a reduced diene content as compared to the first stream. |
