The invention relates to a cigarette paper comprising a base web of fibrous cellulosic material and a pattern applied thereon from an addition material, and to a cigarette including said paper. According to the invention, the cigarette paper consists of a base web (3) of fibrous cellulosic material and a pattern applied thereon from an addition material (5) containing a highly refined form of the fibrous cellulosic material having a weighted average fiber length in the range of approximately 0.15 mm...0.2 mm, while the fibrous cellulosic material in the base web (3) has a weighted average fiber length in the range of approximately 0.7 ...1.5 mm. The claimed cigarette (7) comprises a tobacco rod and a cigarette paper with the above-mentioned characteristics wrapped around the tobacco rod.
