A camera capable of high definition photography without using stroboscopic light emission. The camera (10) calculates an exposure index corresponding the luminance of an object measured by a photometric section (13) and performs exposure control based on that exposure index. When the film sensitivity is not lower than a sensitivity indicated by ISO1600, the camera (10) is subjected to exposure control using an exposure index obtained by performing predetermined correction on the normal exposure index. Assuming the average correction value for the BV value of 0-3 is DeltaE1, and the average correction value for the BV value of 6-9 is DeltaE2, DeltaE1-DeltaE2>=0.5 is satisfied. DeltaE1-DeltaE2>=0.8 is also preferable.
