The passenger restraint for a motor vehicle has front airbag (58) and a guide surface formed in an inner sidewall of the passenger compartment. The guide surface moves inwardly towards the passenger. The guide surface has a control (10) to operate it when there is a frontal impact, a laterally offset frontal impact or an angled impact if an unbelted passenger is detected in the seat.
