It is found out for the first time that a bacterium coxiella can be cultured by the serum-free culture method. Thus, it is clarified that a vaccine can be produced by the serum-free culture method with the use of the bacterial cells thus obtained. A Q fever vaccine preparation, which contains an antigen obtained by culturing the above-described coxiella under serum-free conditions as the active ingredient, has a significant characteristic of being free from any unknown pathological contaminant and is highly advantageous in the fields of medicine and pharmacology, compared with the vaccines produced by the conventional methods.
