<p>The drawing mechanism (20) includes cylinders (522a-c). One drive (540a) has a drawing mechanism path, which comprises partial cylinders (522a-c); these do not extend over the entire length of the spinning machine, but only over a partial section of it. A drive block comprises at least one drive motor (42a) or several of them (42a, 42aa), with which one or more transmission units (42b, 41b'') and cylinder sections (522a, 522c) are connected. The motors are connected via a protection unit (342a) to a line for control signals (319). These are connected in their turn to a control signal output unit (317) of a controller (30). Controller and control signal output units are designed such that only a single motor or group of motors of a drive block of the spinning machine can be switched on. This permits only the single segment of the spinning machine which is associated with the drive block to be switched on. Alternatively several drive blocks associated with several segments of the spinning machine can be switched on together. In a final alternative, all drive blocks (540a-c, 540a'-c') may be switched on together.
