The pipework includes a main pipe section (2) with one or more inlets for gas and/or liquid, and at least one supply line (1) for the liquid (5). The supply line (1) discharges into the pipe section at an angle. The angle is selected to cause flow with axial and radial velocity components, relative to the longitudinal axis (6) of the pipe section. The flow profile set up is helical. The supply line is connected to a pump for the liquid. The angle of introduction is 5-120[deg]. This angle is included between the upstream axis (6) and the supply line axis (7). The preferred angular range is 40-60[deg]. The pipe section is circular in cross section and has constant radius. Suitable geometrical ratios are presented. In variants, tapering pipe sections are employed. The entry of the supply line is tangential. An axially-projecting inner tube or lance (4) is included. Further salient features include generation of cavitation at the location of introduction and formation of a swirling flow with a vapor core. Gas and/or vapor are injected directly into this core.
