The device has a digital subscriber line (xDSL) - chipset (CH) that is arranged in a casing with a program controlled control unit or control logic (DSP). A display device (A) is connected with the control unit for program and/or operating status indication and an input device (U) is provided for program and/or operating control. A battery or a rechargeable battery is provided for power supply of the device. An independent claim is also included for a procedure for local testing of provision of service in a telecommunication network.
