The vibration damper (1) to reduce vibrations on a shaft, especially torsional vibrations on a cardan shaft in motor vehicles, has a damping mass (3) constructed as a rotationally symmetrical flywheel mass fastened to a flange (2) by elastomer spring elements (4). The spring elements are fitted between the flywheel mass and flange as close as possible to the center with regard to the rotational axis. The flange is constructed as a multi-arm support flange and the spring elements are radially arranged in star configuration.
