Electrode-less implantable defibrillator has a modified housing incorporating at least shock- and detector electrodes (1,2) integrated into the housing. Unipolar signals are used to detect arrhythmia using at least three channels formed in the housing into which shock and detector electrodes are introduced to form a multi-contact electrode. The unipolar signals are used to determine the heart frequency and to discriminate between atrial rhythm disturbances which should not be treated with a shock and ventricular rhythm disturbances which should. A conventional ICD housing can be used and equipped with a conventional subcutaneous electrode array which is placed on the left lateral thorax as towards the back as possible.
|
