The invention relates to the construction, purification and characterisation of a GST-CBD fusion protein. The inventive protein has very high and very diverse degradative enzymatic activities: cellulase, beta-glucosidase, xylanase, chitinase, laccase, while retaining the original Glutathione S transferase activity thereof. All of the aforementioned potentialities are highly desirable on an industrial scale.
