An independent claim is included for removing, depleting or inactivating MIF (macrophage migration inhibitory factor) in blood, blood plasma, blood serum or other body fluids, comprising extracorporeal contacting the apheresis material or adsorbant with the blood, blood plasma, blood serum or other body fluids of a patient.
