HOWLING DETECTOR AND ITS METHOD

A howling detector detects, for each speech signal, the domination ratio indicating the degree of danger of causing howling when a mixed signal generated by mixing speech signals collected by microphones by means of a sound mixing unit is converted into sound by means of a loudspeaker. The howling detector comprises a level detecting unit for detecting the levels of the speech signals, a desinence detecting unit which compares in time series a noise reference signal which is a signal concerning the sound produced by the loudspeaker with the mixed signal and detects a desinence section, i.e., the time when the mixed signal is inputted after the noise reference signal falls, and domination ratio calculating unit which extracts only the levels corresponding to the desinence sections out of the levels of the speech signals detected by the level detecting unit and calculates the ratios of the levels of the speech signals to the sum of the levels of the speech signals as their domination ratios.
