The device has a base part (1) fixed to the machine housing with attached bearing arm (6) carrying on its free end a tensioning roller (7). It has a friction part connected to the base part and bearing arm and a torsion-wound spiral or leg spring (9) whose ends work together with the latter to produce a turning force. A guide part is turnable on the base part, on which a nose part (5) is guided to leave its pin facing the base part, with the spring designed as a multi-functional spring. It acts as a pressure spring and lies outside the nose pin (8) when wound up.
