A simple method for constructing a rectangular building, with maximum customer choice of design options, has a central vertical support strut (3) between the foundations (2) and the roof gable (4) and with outer load bearing walls. The roof structure and the floors are supported by the vertical strut and the outer walls. The layout of the inside walls is left to customer choice and are non load bearing. The staircases (10) are included in the shell structure. The position of the vertical strut is at the crossing point of the diagonals joining the corners of the building.
