There is a circumferential groove (40) on the steering column (10) which is engaged by a conical surface (102) of a nut (100) accommodated in a bore (20) in the hub (30) of the steering wheel. The bore runs tangential to the steering column and has a narrow portion which engages the head (70) of a screw (60) which engages in the threaded bore of the nut. Tightening the screw locks the steering wheel onto the steering column.
