Method for qualitative assessment of material with at least one identification characteristic, whereby an electronic image sensor or digital camera is used to record a color image. From the image a first correlated electrical signal is generated. A second signal is generated from a reference image that forms a set value for the first signal. To check deviations of the recorded color image from the reference image the two signals are compared.
