Method of brazing composite materials

A method of brazing two parts of thermostructural composite material, the method including the steps of sealing at least the parts which are to be brazed by impregnating them with a silicon based composition and then forming a layer of refractory ceramic material which is not reactive with silicon at a brazing temperature on the surfaces to be brazed. The ceramic material is preferably silicon carbide or silicon nitride, and may be formed by chemical vapour deposition or chemical vapour infiltration. Prior to the brazing step, an antiwetting agent may be applied on areas of the surfaces not to be brazed. The brazing composition may be a metal based composition which is not reactive with the ceramic material.
