The device has a magneto-rheologic fluid damper (10) mounted between a floor pan (1) of a vehicle and a brake pedal (2). The damper generates a supplementary holding braking force opposing pushing up of the pedal, in case of impact. The damper has a rod (12) connected to the pedal and axially sliding with respect to the damper body. A passive effort restoring module generates a holding braking force when the foot (3) presses the pedal. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a device for controlling force at a brake pedal.
