The screw clamp consists of a fixed clamp arm (8) and a moveable clamp arm (7), which moves along a slide rail. A piston (1) is located in an aperture (20) of the moveable arm. The clamp is moved axially on the piston by a threaded spindle (2). The spindle is fastened to the lower part (21) of the moveable arm. The clamp movement causes the spindle to move to the left on the piston, together with two balls (3,4) of hardened steel. The balls are located in a bore in the spindle end. Turning of the spindle causes the larger ball (4) to turn on the smaller one (3) on a contact point, and this reduces the friction when the spindle lever (5) is turned by hand.
