A lintel for supporting loads above an opening in wall of a building, wherein the lintel includes a first frame, a sheet panel having a flat planar portion dimensioned to have at least the same height or width as the first frame and a second frame adapted to retain and hold the sheet panel between the first and second frames, wherein the lintel is adapted to be positioned and secured within an internal space of a wall frame above an opening in a wall such that lintel is dimensioned to fit within the internal space of the wall frame.
