PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus capable of performing efficient file transfer. SOLUTION: In an image pickup apparatus comprising an imaging device 15 for imaging an object using photoelectric conversion and an image generating means 18 for generating image data from the picked-up image, there are provided discrimination means 20, 21 to/from which a plurality of recording media 22, 23 for recording image data can be attached/detached and which discriminate whether a file associated between the recording media is present or not, and a transfer means 37 for selecting a predetermined file out of the recording media and transferring the selected file.
