PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the usability of a portable telephone set while suppressing its power consumption by determining a situation where the portable telephone set is placed by using an optical sensor and a touch sensor, thus improving operability for the key lock and key lock release of the portable telephone set, and enabling the flexible on/off-control of a back light of the portable telephone set. SOLUTION: This portable apparatus having a liquid crystal display and the back light of the liquid crystal display is provided with the optical sensor to detect a quantity of light around the portable apparatus, the touch sensor to detect somebody's contact, and a control unit to control the back light by using the optical sensor and the touch sensor.
