PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound which can form a strong bond to each other or to any other member, is free from deterioration, and can be used as a coating for forming coating films having excellent water and oil-repelling properties, stain-removing property, lubricity and low refractive indexes, and the like. SOLUTION: This fluorine-containing ether compound represented by formula (1) : X-(Y(Z))<SB>a</SB>-X (1) äX is a perfluorosaturated hydrocarbon group represented by the general formula (2) : R<SP>F</SP>O(CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>b</SB>(CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>p</SB>(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>o</SB>- (2) [R<SP>F</SP>is a perfluoroalkyl or a group obtained by inserting an etheric oxygen atom between the carbon-carbon atoms of the perfluoroalkyl group; (b) is 3 to 200; (p) is≥1; (o) is an integer of≥0], a group obtained by inserting an etheric oxygen between the carbon-carbon atoms of the group; X does not have -OCF<SB>2</SB>O- structure; Y is a group having two or more carbon atoms; Z is a group of formula (3) : -Si(Z<SB>1</SB>)<SB>c</SB>(Z<SB>2</SB>)<SB>(3-c)</SB>(3) [Z<SB>1</SB>is a group capable of being released to condense; Z<SB>2</SB>is H or a monovalent inactive organic group; (c) is an integer of 1 to 3; (a) is an integer of≥1]}.
