The invention relates to a method for heating and/or cooling for instance a building or a fluid with geothermal energy, while groundwater is circulated between an underground location, hereinafter to be called: well, and an above ground location, on which above ground location heat is given off to or extracted from the groundwater. During circulation of the groundwater, decontaminants are added to this groundwater and/or the surrounding soil. As a result, simultaneously with given off or taking up the thermal energy, the groundwater and/or the surrounding soil can be decontaminated, at least be freed of contaminations.
