The piston rod (1), which is not hardened, is provided with a nitrided layer using a plasma-nitriding process. Before or after plasma-nitriding, a stop bush (2) is fitted to the piston rod; it is welded-on. Nitriding takes place over the entire length of the rod, which optionally includes the bush. The IONIT-OX (RTM) plasma nitriding process is employed. An independent claim is included for the corresponding piston rod.
