PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate implementation of large scale modification of firmware followed by modification of mapping. SOLUTION: In the electronic device controlled by the firmware, a program for downloading is executed to store a program for rewriting firmware, a program for updating mapping, and new firmware sent from a host apparatus via a communication means in a volatile memory (S502), the program for updating mapping is executed to modify mapping of a nonvolatile memory and modify information relevant to mapping (S507), and the program for rewriting firmware is executed to write the new firmware in an area storing the firmware (S508).
