PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyalkyleneimine alkylene oxide copolymer capable of exhibiting high basic performances from the view point of detergency, etc. SOLUTION: The polyalkyleneimine alkylene oxide copolymer contains, essentially, at least one selected from a group consisting of (1) CO-R<SP>2</SP>-COOX, (2) CH<SB>2</SB>CH(OH)-R<SP>3</SP>, (3) CH<SB>2</SB>CH(OH)CH<SB>2</SB>-O-R<SP>4</SP>and (4) C(O)-NH-R<SP>5</SP>(wherein R<SP>2</SP>is a 2-8C alkylene group, a 2-8C alkenylene group or the like; R<SP>3</SP>is a 2-6C alkenyl group, a 6-14C aryl group or the like; R<SP>4</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a 2-8C alkyl group, a 2-6C alkenyl group or the like; R<SP>5</SP>is a 2-8C alkyl group, a 2-8C alkenyl group, a 6-14C aryl group or the like; X is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline earth metal atom, an ammonium group or an organic ammonium group or the like).
