PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane-electrode assembly for a fuel cell for forming an effective three-phase interface and improving efficiency of the cell.

SOLUTION: This membrane-electrode assembly for the fuel cell includes a polymer electrolyte membrane 15; catalyst layers 13 positioned on both faces of the polymer electrolyte membrane 15; gas diffusion layers 11 positioned on one face of each of the catalyst layers 13 which makes non-contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane 15; and a porous hydrogen ion transfer layer, existing between the polymer electrolyte membrane 15 and the catalyst layers 13 and containing inorganic fine particles 19.
