PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a video signal recording method of not erasing records in the case of the existence of an empty capacity in a recording medium and of continuously recording images in an erasable area without interruption of recording in the case of a lack of the empty capacity. SOLUTION: In a picked-up image recording method which continues recording by reserving a recordable area even in the case of a lack of the empty area when recording video sequences of picked-up images in a randomly accessible recording medium 18, a recordable area of the recording medium 18 recorded per video sequence is detected, and a recording information table 14 is generated by deciding whether the recordable area is a preservation area or an erasable area on the basis of a detection signal detected in the recordable area, and in the case that the recordable area is an erasable area, video sequences are recorded in the erasable area by overwrite by a recording medium write/read part 12 after it is detected by a residual capacity detector 13 that the capacity of the empty area is filled up with picked-up images of video sequences.
