PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start friction element controller of a vehicle to reduce the gear change shock at the changing of an auxiliary transmission. SOLUTION: A forward/reverse switch mechanism 30 is arranged between an engine 1 and a toroidal continuously variable transmission 40. The auxiliary transmission 20 gear changeable at least between low-speed stage and high-speed stage is installed in series with the toroidal continuously variable transmission 40 and the forward/reverse switch mechanism 30. After the auxiliary transmission 20 starts to gear change, a transmission controller 62 makes the forward clutch 31 of the forward/reverse switch mechanism 30 be in the slippage.
