<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which the backlash quantity of a gear incorporated in a driving means for rotating an image carrier or the material to be transferred is obtained with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: When a resist pattern 54 and a patterned image 50 having a high-concentration area 50B and a low-concentration area 50A adjacent to the high-concentration area in the sub-scanning direction are transferred to a transfer belt 24 and a boundary between the high-concentration area 50B and the low-concentration area 50A is detected, a positional deviation of the resist pattern is calculated as the backlash quantity of the gear incorporated in each of a drive unit 36Y corresponding to the image carrier 20Y, a drive unit 36M corresponding to the image carrier 20M, a drive unit 36C corresponding to the image carrier 20C and a drive unit 36K corresponding to the image carrier K or the backlash quantity of the gear incorporated in a drive unit 36B for rotating the transfer belt 24. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
