PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material identification device for accurately identifying a sheet material. SOLUTION: An impact force is directly applied to a piezoelectric element 202 by an impact application member 201 to detect a sheet material absence impact force as an applied impact force. Further, an impact force is applied to a sheet material 203 by the application member 201 to detect an impact force undergone via the sheet material 203 as a sheet material interposition impact force. An identification part can accurately identify the sheet material 203 by performing identification on the basis of the applied impact force and on the interposition impact force.
