PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system of an internal combustion engine by which vibration caused in stopping the engine is suppressed, variations in the crank angle occurring at the time of an engine-shutdown can also be suppressed to conduct a favorable shutdown and start-up of the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: During the period from establishment of shutdown conditions of the internal combustion engine to the instant of an actual shutdown of the engine, when the engine speed is higher than a specified speed, the inlet air-flow in the cylinder of the engine is reduced (S102).
