PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide procedures to diagnose cochlear edema partly based on an analysis of a patient's auditory brainstem response (ABR) to stimulation. SOLUTION: The patient's ABR to wide band click sound stimulation and a plurality of masked ABR are recorded. The stimulation is masked by a high-pass noise with a plurality of high-pass cut-off frequencies. A difference at a latency between V wave components of a single response to unmasked click sound and undermasked V wave components of a high-pass response to a low cut-off frequency is calculated. When the undermasked V wave components do not exist, normal V wave components are used. The measured difference at the latency is combined with another measured value (ex. V wave amplitude ratio). Distribution of the combined measured values is plotted against a group and a threshold for diagnosing cochlear edema is established. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
