PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the sheet accommodating capacity of each sheet feeder while the sheet transporting performance is well maintained in the arrangement in which a plurality of sheet feeders are installed in line in the transporting direction of sheets to an image forming device. SOLUTION: At the time of transporting the uppermost positioned one S of the paper sheets among a sheet bundle placed on a placing plate of the sheet feeder 1c located adjoining to a sheet feeder 1b in the upstream on the transport path, the level of the uppermost sheet S in the sheet feeder 1b is lowered to a level (positionβ) lying below the level (positionα) of the uppermost sheet S in the sheet feeder 1c.
