PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet handling device capable of detecting carrying condition of paper sheets and automatically setting taking position of the loaded paper sheets on the basis of a result of the detection. SOLUTION: This paper sheet handling device has a supplying unit 2 having a movable loading part to be loaded with the paper sheets P having the same shape, a taking unit 3 for taking out the paper sheets P, which are supplied by the supplying unit 2, one by one into a carrying passage, and a carrying condition detecting unit 4 for detecting carrying condition of the paper sheets P taken by the taking unit 3 for carrying. A taking and carrying control unit 86 controls a back-up plate 21 for moving the paper sheets P loaded in the loading part upward and downward in the carrying passage and an A block 22 and a B block 23 for moving the paper sheets P right and left in the carrying passage.
