PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding device capable of forming a proper gap between an air shield plate and a grinding wheel with a simple constitution regardless of changes of the diameter of the grinding wheel, and also, capable of surely blocking an air layer accompanied with the grinding wheel. SOLUTION: The air shield plate 32, which rotates together with the grinding wheel G and is for blocking the air layer 27 accompanied with the grinding wheel, is provided at the slightly upstream side position in the rotating direction of the grinding wheel from an arriving point where a coolant flow arrives at a grinding face Ga. A holding member 33 for movably holding the air shield plate 32 is provided. A spring 34 for energizing the air shield plate 32 in the direction of approaching the grinding face Ga is provided. A groove end face La and chamfering Lb, which impart buoyancy to the air shield plate 32 by the air flow of the air layer 27 and form a minute gap between the air shield plate 32 and the grinding face Ga against the pressing force of the spring 34, are formed to the tip of the air shield plate 32 facing the grinding face Ga of the grinding wheel G.
