PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitator which takes in material to be agitated into a conveyer space between a conveyer front surface part and a conveyer rear surface part of a vertical endless conveyer, and can perform agitation in the space, and can remarkably enhance the agitating efficiency compared with conventional agitators. SOLUTION: A large number of agitation blades 4 are connected together by an endless chain 6 with gaps 5 through which the material to be agitated can pass. The material to be agitated is scraped down by the agitation blades on the conveyer front surface part 1f and part of the material passes through the gaps between the agitation blades to enter a conveyer space 13 between the conveyer front surface part 1f and the conveyer rear surface part 1b. The material to be agitated is stirred by being transferred in a vertically reverse direction between the conveyer front surface part of the vertical endless conveyer and the conveyer rear surface part in the conveyer space, and the material to be agitated in the conveyer space passes through the gaps between the agitation blades and is scraped up by the agitation blades in conveyer rear surface part.
