<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with the technology of efficiently printing in a specific color based upon a print request, the image forming apparatus being capable of a printing operation using toner in a cartridge put in a developing position while selective switching between a plurality of cartridges having toners of the specific color takes place in the developing position. <P>SOLUTION: Prior to the printing operation, a printing preparation process is made optimum based upon a print request. Specifically, the printing operation using the priority cartridge is allowed by performing, as the printing preparation process, a printing preparation operation for only the priority cartridge based on the print request.
