<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform photograph direct printing without operating a printer. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 1000 for recording an image on a recording medium comprises a means for communicating with a digital camera 3012, a means for recognizing the digital camera 3012, and a means for displaying the operating state of the printer 1000. Under a state where the state display means is displaying power-off state, the printer 1000 communicates with the digital camera 3012 through the communication means.
