<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the activating performance of a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises the preparation of slurry containing alumina powder, coating the alumina slurry at least to the corners of cells of the substrate and sintering to form a precoat layer.
