PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve thermal efficiency in a steam engine in which liquid in a pipe is fluidized and displaced by repeatedly executing vaporization of liquid sealed in a pipe by heating and liquefaction of the liquid by cooling. SOLUTION: A steam engine 1 is provided with an underside valve 40 in a part of a pipe line formed by a loop pipe 10 which is disposed between a heater 30 and an output part 100 and which does not pass through a cooler 32, and with an upperside valve 42 in a part of a pipe line formed by a loop pipe 10 which is disposed between the cooler 32 and the output part 100 and which does not pass through the heater 30. A controller 110 conducts respective opening/closing controls of the underside valve 40 and the upperside valve 42 on the basis of a detected result by a sensor 112 for detecting a position of a piston 104.
