PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a can body inspection device and a can body inspection method capable of inspecting exactly a defect of a shape generated in a can body formed with unevenness in a side face. SOLUTION: This can body inspection device for inspecting the can body 500 formed regularly with the unevenness 510 in a barrel part has a light irradiation means 100 for irradiating an inner face of the can body 500 with light, an imaging means 200 for imaging the inner face of the can body 500 through an opening part to generate an image data, a density drawing-out means 303 for drawing out respective image densities of a plurality of small areas obtained by dividing an image portion Ia corresponding to a portion in the can body formed with the unevenness, based on the image data, and a determination means 303 for determining the presence of the defect in the portion in the can body formed with the unevenness, on the basis of the image densities in the respective small areas.
