A large number of investigation samples are formed from the measured values of the corrosion depths of the respective cast iron pipes embedded in a large number of areas and the analyzed results of soils around the pipes to preliminarily determine the constantβ<SB>0</SB>and the coefficients C1-C6, and the corrosion depth of the pipe embedded in a specific area is estimated, based on the data related to the soil in which the pipe is embedded and on the embedding period of the pipe.
