<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently suppress space charges, and to allow sweeping over a wide mass-number range with a high-duty cycle. <P>SOLUTION: This mass spectrometer includes an ion source 1 for ionizing a sample; an ion transport part 3; a linear trap part 6 for storing ions transported by the axially formed potential; and a control part 12 for discharging, from the linear trap part, ions in a second mass-number range different from a first mass-number range at nearly the same timing as that for storing ions in the first mass-number range in the linear trap part. The control part 12 executes control for mass-selectively discharging ions from the linear trap part 6 by any one of voltage applications among (1) applying an auxiliary A.C. voltage between at least a pair of linear trap electrodes constituting the linear trap part 6, (2) applying the auxiliary A.C. voltage to an exit-side end electrode constituting the linear trap part 6, and (3) applying the auxiliary A.C. voltage between wing electrodes provided for the mass spectrometer and constituting the linear trap part 6. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
